TITLE: A Comparison between the beginning of the novel and the film 'Of Mice and Men'.

Remember, the following plan is only intended as a guide.

Paragraph 1

Describe the beginning of the novel and outline its purpose. For instance, what mood does the opening create and what expectations does it raise? Explain how it does the latter and do not forget to quote and comment on the language.

Paragraph 2

How is the film's beginning different and why? Describe its opening using media terminology. What mood does the film create? How does it do this?

Paragraph 3

How are the characters introduced in the film and the book? How are Lennie and George described in the novel? Here, you must quote to explain your answer and comment upon what the writer is suggesting.

Paragraph 4

Are the characters in the film how you imagined? What are the similarities and differences between the two sets of characters in terms of dress, personality and physique, for example. How does lighting and sound contribute to the beginning of the novel? (See the vocabulary sheet).

Conclusion

Did you feel that the film was an accurate and skilful adaptation? Did you feel the casting director chose the appropriate actors? Why do you think the director changed the order of the story?
