KS4 ENGLISH UNIT

TITLE:

Group Advertising Campaign

AIMS:

This Key Stage 4 project is intended to develop:

  1. Group Skills - decision making, listening skills, delegation of tasks.
  2. An understanding of media language, institution, audience, narrative, genre, representation and construction.
  3. Awareness of language use to persuade and sell products.

ASSESSABLE SKILLS:

Oral Assessment (En 1)

Oral assessment is feasible at various stages of the activity:

this culminates in a group presentation of the campaign ideas to the teacher (client).

Written Assessment (En 3 + 4/5)

Incidental to the end product, the group produce several pieces of writing which reflect their "ability to recognise variations in vocabulary according to purpose, topic and audience." En4 (5E)

  1. Produce a design for the packaging of the product and explain the form and content/target audience.
  2. Script for a 30 second radio advertisement.
  3. Artwork for A4 size magazine/paper advert.

Coursework Written Assessment (see criteria for EN4)

Each student must produce their own letter to the client outlining their proposed campaign, and how it captures the attention of the target audience. The letter must include references to the previous activities, group decisions and plans - thus enhancing the realism of the activity and reflecting "knowledge of ways in which language varies between different types of texts."
